Fixing damaged hair is a hot topic these days and it’s not hard to understand why that would be the case! Most of us, by our 20’s, have discovered the magical world of hair dyes, curling irons, straighteners, blow dryers, and everything else that temporarily makes our hair look good. Most of us have also come to the harsh realization that these things also cause a heck of a lot of damage- from split ends to hair loss to everything in between. We’re left reading article after article about fixing damaged hair and scouring the store aisles for something to save it.

I’m no hair expert but I’ve been there, done that. Not only have I done a lot to damage my own hair but I was also born with very thin, fine, oily hair that requires a lot of upkeep. None of us are born with perfect hair. Whether your hair is thick, curly, frizzy, thin, or balding, there’s probably something you’d like to change about it in order to improve its look and health. I’m not here to tell you that I know exactly what you should do with your hair. But I am here to tell you what’s worked for me and what I think could potentially improve the health of your unique hair!

1. Wash and condition your hair with a custom shampoo.

I, like most people, used to expect a little too much of my shampoos and conditioners! I expected them to fix all my unique hair issues and totally failed to realize that something being sold to a wide variety of people with different hair types couldn’t possibly do that.

Fortunately, I came across Function of Beauty, a company that customizes your shampoo/conditioner to fit your hair needs. Truth be told, I’m always hesitant about custom products because I feel like they’re often more focused on the customizing quiz part of the process than the actual quality. I decided to give this company a try anyway because I’d heard a lot of great things about it and felt like my hair was worth the try!

Function of Beauty has you take a short questionnaire to figure out your hair goals. There are a ton of different hair types and hair goals to choose from. I listed that my hair was straight, thin, and oily and that my hair goals were to:

  • fix split ends
  • deep condition
  • eliminate frizz
  • volumize
  • lengthen

Upon opening my box just a few days after ordering, I really appreciated how personal everything felt! The packaging is very classy, cute, and unique to you. They include your personal shampoo/conditioner name (i.e: Function of Coral) on your box, bottles, and information pamphlet. They even included some cute temporary tattoos in my box! Oh, and pumps for the bottles, which is a giant YES in my book.

The way these products have made my hair look and feel truly does feel unique to my hair needs. I can already see a difference in the health of my hair and it’s only been a couple of weeks. My hair feels healthier, more voluminous, and less frizzy than it’s ever felt! I’m definitely going to continue getting these products because I truly feel that the difference they’ve already made is 100% worth the price.

2. Dry your hair with Hair Remedies frizz and damage eliminating hair towel.

If you do one thing to reduce hair damage and eliminate frizz, it should be using the Hair Remedie Frizz Eliminating Towel! You’ve probably heard that your hair is the most susceptible to damage when it’s wet. Wrapping it in a regular towel worsens split ends, pulls out your hair, and makes your hair a lot more dry and frizzy. I learned this awhile back and actually completely stopped wrapping my hair in a towel after showering. That is, until I heard about the Hair Remedie Frizz Eliminating Towel.

This towel is soft and lightweight, so it doesn’t pull out your hair or cause more split ends. You eliminate frizz and damage by not exposing your hair to the rough terrycloth or microfiber of regular towels. The Hair Remedie Frizz Eliminating Towel is large enough to use on thin or thick hair while still being lightweight! And lastly, the ultra-absorbent cloth that it’s made out of soaks up all the excess water, which decreases drying time (and who doesn’t want that!?)

Since I’ve stopped using as much heat on my hair (in order to repair the damage) I’ve loved knowing I can still dry my hair quickly without using a blow dryer! I love how my hair feels after using this and really appreciate the fact that this has simplified my life while making my hair more healthy!

3. Use a leave-in conditioner.

Even though my Function of Beauty products and Hair Remedie Frizz Eliminating Hair Towel do a great job with repairing/eliminating damage and frizz, I like to use a bit of leave-in-conditioner for an extra precaution. My favorite brand of leave-in-conditioner is Miracle 10! It’s the only leave-in-conditioner I’ve used that does everything it says it will without making my hair feel greasy. I add it to the lengths of my hair (not near or on the roots) to stop hair breakage, repair damage, smooth and control frizz, detangle, prevent split ends, and protect against heat.

I bought the Walmart version of this because it was cheaper than the actual name brand. But I actually realized later that I could have bought the actual brand on Amazon for around the same price as the knock-off!

    • Yeah, my hair gets so much worse in the summer too! This towel has been a game-changer for my hair! 🙂

  • The Hair Remedie towel sounds like a dream! I have fine hair so I get worried about a lot of damage that can come to it, especially since I dye my hair. But it sounds like Function of Beauty may have solutions for that! I have heard of it before, but hadn’t heard a lot about it from people that I knew. I am glad it works well for you!

    • I’m the same way about my fine hair! I’ve been trying to do everything I can to reduce the amount of damage I do to my hair. I’ve dyed it way too much that now I’m having to repair all the damage haha. I’m glad you like the idea of this towel! It’s super awesome! 🙂

  • All of this is new to me, and I’m so intrigued. My hair gets frizzy in the summer and although it doesn’t really bother me, several people have commented on it. I’m sure I could benefit from these products, plus those temporary tattoos are so cute!

    • If it doesn’t bother you than there’s no need to fix it! I’m that way about a lot of things that other people seem to care about (like makeup… I like it but don’t care THAT much about it haha). But yes, these products are pretty great and the temporary tattoos made me pretty happy! 🙂

  • I need that towel and I really really want to try that shampoo and conditioner now! It seems so cute and fun and it makes your hair way better so it sounds like wins all around haha! I bleached the ends of my hair like two years ago and again last fall and even though I love the way it looks I was definitely feeling and seeing the damage a bit. My hair just naturally turns into Monica’s hair from Friends when she’s on vacation – it’s an absolute frizz ball in the summer haha. I’m loving your posts so much!!
